Malaysia Trip – CABL – June Events
As I ended the report last month, on June 2nd, I preached a bi-lingual sermon in Melaka and taught an English Bible class. June 3rd was Eta’s birthday, so we were able to celebrate her birthday in Melaka.
One of the main reasons for the trip to Malaysia in June was to participate in the 16th Annual Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship (CABL). I have had the privilege to speak on almost every one of these lectureships during the past sixteen years. The theme for the lectureship this year was: “Lord, teach us to pray.” There were approximately 180 Chinese Christians to attend this lectureship from Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, and the United States. There were even a few who attended who were not Chinese, but could speak the Chinese. language
This year, I was the second speaker instead of the usual first speaker. My topic was: “Does God Really Answer Prayer?” I always use bi-lingual PowerPoint for my lesson because there are some who attend who do not speak Chinese, so at least they can read the English on the screen, and there are some who speak Chinese, but were English educated, so they cannot read Chinese. They are able to read the English content on the screen.
It was good to be with so many Chinese brethren at the lectureship. We are thankful for all those who came, participated, and had a part in this effort. We are glad to be able to attend to encourage and to be encouraged by the brethren. We are especially thankful for the efforts of Ong Eng Boon and Jedediah Yuan. They are the two main coordinators of the lectureship every year.
The topic for next year has not yet been decided, but the location for the 17th annual lectureship will be conducted somewhere in the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia area.
At the conclusion of the lectureship, we went from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur for Sunday’s activities. On Sunday morning, we attended the Subang Jaya congregation and spoke in English to the morning worship and Bible class there. After a pleasant lunch with sister Amy and brother Yeow, I spoke in the afternoon Chinese Bible class and worship at Subang Jaya. On Sunday evening, I spoke at the Chinese worship service at the Section 17 congregation in the Kuala Lumpur area.
The next day, we boarded our flight back to Jakarta and then on to Lampung. We continued our regular on-line classes and services in English and Chinese after returning to Indonesia from Malaysia.
On July 2nd, we began our trip back to the states and arrived safely on July 3rd. We will stay busy while we are in the states.
