Malaysia Trip And A Month of Birthdays
On May 30th, we began our journey to Malaysia for the Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship and other speaking appointments. We had to spend the night in Jakarta, but then arrived safely on the 31st of May.
The first Sunday we were in the Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia area. We worshipped with the Section 17 English congregation. On Sunday evening, because Eta was tired, we worshipped with the Chinese congregation at Section 17 online.
The first birthday in the month was Eta’s. Her birthday was on June 3rd. We went to dinner and an IMAX movie for the celebration.
The next day, we traveled to Melaka to get ready for the 17th Annual Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship. We were able to enjoy a day in Melaka before the beginning of the lectures. I like to get to the lectureship location before the lectures begin because I want to have a room before the lectures begin. I have spent a few times getting changed in a hot bathroom before being the first speaker.
There were close to 180 Chinese speaking people from Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, and the United States. The theme of this year’s lectures was: “Acknowledging God.”
On the last day of the lectureship was Jojo’s birthday. Of course, she is currently living in Texas, so we were not able to celebrate it with her. We did get to talk to her on her day.
After the lectureship, we went back to Kuala Lumpur. Sunday, June 8th was a busy day. On Sunday morning and afternoon, I spoke at the Subang Jaya congregation in both English and Chinese. I presented two English lessons in the morning and then two Chinese lessons in the afternoon. That evening, I preached in Chinese at Section 17. There was also a potluck after the service on Sunday night.
Last November, Eta had right knee replacement surgery. In June, we had a follow-up appointment to see how it was going. We also discussed with the doctor the possibility of doing the other knee next year.
We returned to Indonesia on June 13th. Of course, my birthday was on the 14th, but one of the gifts we brought back from Malaysia was bronchitis. It has hung around all the way to the end of June. Eta was even hospitalized for two days to get her back on the road to recovery. We are doing much better now.
I have continued to do all of my online classes and speaking assignments. I also start teaching again in August at Four Seas College – Chinese Dept.
