History of Mom’s Illness

About five years ago, mom suffered the kind of stroke that caused her to no longer to be able to walk and also caused her to lose her short-term memory. It was at that time that she moved to a nursing facility.

For five years mom did pretty well. But along with so many others who have been affected by the covid-19, mom contracted the virus and along with her other problems passed away after a short stay in the hospital and hospice.

Sixteen years ago, dad passed away after about a four month illness. Mom’s parents and sister all passed away at the age of 75. Mom always thought she would also pass away at the same age. However, she lived twenty-one years past that age.

Because of the covid-19, there were very few who attended the viewing and the funeral for mom. Even though people were not able to attend in person, they were able to view the funeral virtually.

We are thankful for all of our brethren around the world who have remembered our mother on her birthdays and for others who sent cards on a regular basis. We are also thankful for the nursing home staff who cared so well for mom during her last years. Because my sister and I could not visit on a regular basis, we are especially thankful to Dave and Ken Grubb and their spouses for their constant visits and care for mom.

We will miss our mother, but we look forward to the time we will be able to see her again in the next life. My wife, Eta, had hoped to meet my mother in this life, but because of visa problems, she was unable to do so.

Letters from Mom

Back in the late 1970’s, my mother and I began to exchange letters. During the 1970’s, 1980’s, and 1990’s we exchanged hundreds of letters. Especially during the time while I lived in Taiwan, we would write each other regular letters. I still have copies of all the letters written by mom and my replies.

Thanks to our brethren and friends for all of the kind comments in the passing of my mother. We have received comments from Facebook and from personal cards.
