Singapore and Malaysia Trip
Singapore and Malaysia Trip
Before leaving for
my 52nd overseas mission trip to Singapore and Malaysia in late May and June, I
had the privilege to preach at the Chestnut Mountain congregation.
In less than 24
hours after I left Atlanta, I arrived in Singapore. I did not have to wait very
long in immigration and my luggage was waiting for me at the carousel. After
getting to the hotel and getting all my luggage sorted out, I got to bed about
3:45 AM local time. I had planned to sleep until about 8:00 or 9:00 am. When I
finally woke up, it was 12:15 PM! That was a first for me! After getting up and
getting cleaned up, I was able to run my normal errands on the first day back in
Asia.
On Friday night
through Sunday morning, a gospel meeting was conducted at the Jurong Church of
Christ with Chris Herd. I had the privilege to attend these series of meetings.
On Sunday evening, I attended the Chinese service at the Lim Ah Pin
congregation.
On Monday morning, I
boarded the bus chartered my members of the Jurong congregation to travel to
Malaysia to attend the Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship (CABL). Note: The reason
I fly to Singapore instead of Kuala Lumpur is because of the savings in cost.
The price is about half what it would cost to fly directly to Kuala Lumpur.
Also, the time needed to complete the trip is about eight hours quicker.
I had the privilege
to speak at the 9th Annual Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship. The
lectureship this year was conducted at a resort outside of Port Dickson,
Malaysia. There were nine speakers and about 200 people from Singapore,
Malaysia, Taiwan, China, and the USA who attended the lectureship. Thanks to Ong
Eng Boon and Jedediah Yuan for serving as the coordinators for this effort. The
theme this year was: “Trusting God in Times of Adversity.” I had the privilege
of speaking twice at the lectureship as well as serving on one of the three
question and answer panels. The lectureship will be in Johor Bahru, Malaysia
next year.
After the
lectureship, I headed for Section 17 (which is in the greater Kuala Lumpur area
of Malaysia) where I conducted a weekend gospel meeting on the theme of the
importance of “Remembering.” I also had the opportunity to spend some time with
many of my friends there as well.
Before speaking at
the Kota Kemuning congregation which is also in the Kuala
Lumpur area; I attended a visitation and funeral for the mother of Allen Tan. In
addition to presenting three lessons at KK, we made visits to the hospital and
also to a prospect. On Monday, I headed back to Singapore to catch my flight
home.
I took a number of
books and other materials with me to distribute among some of the brethren in
both Singapore and Malaysia. On a future trip, I am hoping to bring out more
Chinese DVD’s for use among the Chinese speaking people in Singapore, Malaysia,
Taiwan, and China.
Thanks to all of my
supporters who make these efforts possible. I am thankful for your financial
help, but also thankful for your prayers on my behalf as I make these trips both
domestic and overseas.
