Singapore – Malaysia Trip Ends June 13th
May 18th marked the beginning of my 63rd mission
trip. My trip through Tokyo to Singapore went very smoothly and I arrived in
both places ahead of schedule. On Saturday, I had the opportunity to get
adjusted to the time and the climate before beginning to speak on Sunday.
Sunday was a busy day. I went to Jurong
for Bible study and worship. I spoke at a joint Bible class in the auditorium
then preached in worship. It was good to see the brethren there again. After
eating lunch with the elders and preacher, I went over to Lim Ah Pin where I
spoke in the Chinese Bible class and worship. After those services ended, a few
of the younger members took me over to see the Art Exhibition that included
Benedict Yu at the LaSalle Art School. We also ate together before ending the
evening.
On Monday night, I had the opportunity to
eat a meal with Robbie and Judy Andrews. It was good to visit with them and get
to know them better. On Tuesday morning, I had my regular Bible study with Luka
and Kent O’Donnell via Facebook video. On Wednesday evening, I spoke at the English
Bible class at Jurong. It was good to see the brethren at Jurong again.
On Thursday morning, I left Singapore for
Malaysia. I flew to Kuala Lumpur for a gospel meeting at Subang Jaya. I had a
little drama upon arriving in Malaysia. I forgot my small shoulder bag on the
plane. Fortunately, it was found and returned to me, even though it delayed my
exit by about an hour. I hated to inconvenience the one waiting on me outside
the airport. Thanks to Malaysian Airlines for helping me to retrieve my bag.
The gospel meeting began on Friday night.
We had a good turnout for the service. I spoke 90 minutes in English and
Chinese. On Saturday morning, I attended a seminar at the Klang Church of
Christ with three speakers talking about dealing with crisis in our lives
today.
We finished the gospel meeting at Subang
Jaya on Sunday morning. I presented two bi-lingual lessons for worship and
Bible study. We had good attendance for both of the services.
On Tuesday morning, I had my regular
Bible study with Kent O’Donnell and Luka Liu over Facebook Video. We had
another good two hour session together. They were in Palmerston North, New
Zealand. I was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship was
conducted 1-3 June in Ipoh, Malaysia. I was one of the ten speakers on the
program. I also was on a panel discussion. Because of the more remote location,
we did not have as many to attend this year, but still have more than 100 to
take part in the effort. After the CABL, I rode a train to Kuala Lumpur, then
took a commuter train on to Melaka to preach on Sunday morning. I headed back
to the Klang valley in the afternoon and had dinner with Mike, June, and Hannah
Leong before spending the night at brother and sister Hee Liang’s house.
On Monday, nine of us went to Fraser’s
Hill for a period of fellowship in the cooler hills of Malaysia – no air-conditioner needed. After this trip, I
spent the last weekend in Malaysia with the Section 17 brethren. I spoke on
Friday night and twice on Sunday. On Saturday, I attended the Chinese Gospel
Meeting in Klang to hear brother Kwan. I preached at Sunday at Section 17 in
the Bible class and worship. After the services, a number of the members took
me to a restaurant and treated me to an early birthday lunch.
On Monday, June 12th, I flew back to
Singapore to overnight before heading back home on the 13th. I had a very good
and uneventful flight back home arriving safe and sound a little ahead of
schedule. I was able to get quite a bit of sleep on the way home.
It was another good trip to Asia. The
opportunity to teach and to enjoy the fellowship of the brethren is always
enjoyable. Thanks for all of your prayers on my behalf. Scott Ingram and I are
scheduled to depart for Taiwan on July 11th for a two week survey trip. Your
continued prayers and support are solicited.
