Planned Overseas Trips for 2015

I ended the year by giving a mission report at Chestnut Mountain Church in Georgia and the College Road Church in Palatka, Florida. It was good to be able to visit with the brethren at Palatka again. I also was able to spend the last week of the year with my good friends – Mike and Lydia Tubbs. With them, I had the opportunity to visit the four parks of Disney in Orlando, Florida. It was the first time I had been there since 1985. Two of the parks did not even exist then. The other parks have also made many changes. I am thankful for the hospitality they showed me for that week.

In January, I will be attending the Florida School of Preaching lectures, followed by a gospel meeting in Lake Placid, FL. Four overseas trips are planned for this New Year. Trips will include: New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and China.

News and Letters from Around the World

SINGAPORE: “Thank you so much for preaching for us at our Gospel Meeting from 27-30 Nov 2014 on the theme, “The Majestic Love of God”. We have thoroughly enjoyed your sermon on the topic, “… Is Revealed In His Son,” and we trust that our visitors have benefited much from the preaching as well. We appreciate so much your time and effort in preparing the lessons and sermons for the Four Seas Lectureship and our Gospel Meeting. May our Heavenly Father continue to bless you and your family in your labour for Him in His church” – Elders, Lim Ah Pin Church of Christ. (NOTE: I am thankful I was able to have a part in these efforts last year. JMG).

FENTON, IA: “I was wondering if the Chinese state approved church uses reliable Bibles?” – Dean Wilson. (NOTE: You can buy the Chinese Union Version Bible in the state approved religious bookstores in China. This version is currently the best readily available Bible to use among the Chinese people. JMG.)

THANKS: Every year we have supporters who have to stop their support for one reason or another. We also have new supporters who have the ability and opportunity to help support this work. We have monthly supporters and one-time supporters for this work. To all of you, I say a BIG THANK YOU for helping to make this work possible. Without your help and prayers, this work would not be possible.

TEMPLES: A MONEY–MAKING OPERATION

One of the first things that tourists notice about Taiwan and the Far East in general is the over-abundance of temples. People are amazed that in spite of the poor economies, temples seem to thrive. (Note: Not all Asian economies are poor now.) One of the reasons there are so many temples is because they are money-making operations.  They are built by the donations of worshippers, and they are able to operate because of the contributions made by those who are wishing to avoid bad luck and secure good luck

We cannot compare our congregations with number of temples, because we are not in the money-making business. We are trying, to the best of our ability, to preach the gospel in its purity and simplicity. We also make no charge to those who receive it. Because we are not in the money-making business, we must continue to depend upon our brethren to supply our needs.  (See 3 John 5-8.)

There are so many people who need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is up to all of us to see that they get that opportunity.  Remember that about 60% of the world’s population is in Asia. Even though the cost of taking the gospel gets more expensive every year, we must still fulfill the great commission to take the gospel to the whole world (Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:19-20). JMG.
