Back to Asia

On November 5th, I headed back to Indonesia to see my wife and to begin my 74th mission trip. This was one of the easiest trips to Jakarta I have ever made as I was able to go from Atlanta to Jakarta with just one stopover in Incheon, South Korea.

My wife was at the airport in Jakarta to meet me. We spent two days in the city before heading back home in Lampung. On the first Sunday back in Indonesia, I had the privilege to preach a sermon and teach a Bible class at the Asoka congregation. From November 11-22 (with two days off for midterm tests), I had the privilege to teach at the Southern Sumatra Bible Academy on the Book of Mark. I also had the privilege to teach the midweek Bible class while in Lampung.

On November 23rd, Jessica, Jovita, Eta, and I left for Singapore to attend the Four Seas College Lectureship and joint gospel meetings. There were record crowds for the lectureship this year with morning attendance more than 200 each day. On Saturday, there were 230 in attendance.

It was a joy to be with brethren from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, and the United States. Of course, Eta, Jessica, and Jovita represented Indonesia.

On Monday, December 2nd, Jessica and Jovita went back to Indonesia and Eta and I headed to Taiwan to begin a two-week effort in the cities of Taichung, Hualien, and Taipei. There will be a lectureship in Taichung and a gospel meeting in Hualien.

We are so thankful for all of your prayers while we are traveling in Asia during these weeks.

Financial Support

It is now the time of year when congregations start making their budgets for the next year. Also, as we get near to the end of the year, brethren think about making one-time contributions to a work, or make a decision to become a regular supporter of a work. Our brethren have been generous through the years and we are thankful for the continued generosity which makes this work possible.

For the past thirty-eight years of our work, our contributions and some of our contributors have changed from year to year. We are thankful for the steady support we have received through the decades.

We hope that in the coming year, 2020, we will be able to keep our current contributions, and, if possible, to have some new contributors begin to support our work. It may be possible that some of our contributors will be able to increase their contributions in the new year. If that is possible, it will be greatly appreciated.

If you know of brethren who might be interested in becoming part of our work, please forward this report to them, or put them in touch with me so that I can inform them of the work we are trying to do in evangelism and edification. This year, except for China and the United States, my wife is traveling with me on all of my mission trips. I am thankful she is able to do this to enhance the work we are doing. Because of our inability to obtain a visa for her, I am spending more time overseas than I normally would. We will be going to several cities in Indonesia during the months of February and March, 2020, to encourage the churches in those cities. Those cities include Manado, Palembang, Batam, Jakarta, and Lampung.

Thanks to you who have already made a contribution to keep our work going. John and Eta Grubb.

Back to Asia

I returned to the states on October 10th. For the last several days I was in Indonesia, I had the privilege to preach and teach at the Asoka congregation in Lampung, Sumatra. I am scheduled to return to Asian on November 5th. After I get back to Indonesia, I will spend two weeks teaching the gospel according to Luke at the Southern Sumatra Bible Academy.

Eta, Jessica, Jovita, and I will go to Singapore for the Four Seas College Lectures near the end of November. On December 2nd, the two girls will return to Indonesia and Eta and I will travel on to Taiwan for teaching on the island.

On the way back to the states, my youngest brother, Jim, died. He was 60 years old. He had been in hospice care for a short while and passed away on October 9th. His funeral was on October 14th. I was able to travel up for the funeral and to be able to visit with my mother and my two remaining siblings.

On my first Sunday back in the states (October 13th), I had the privilege to preach at the Chestnut Mountain congregation then do my mission report that evening.

On Friday, October 18th, I had the privilege to speak on the World Missions Forum conducted by the Forest Park congregation in Atlanta.

October 20-23 found me conducting a gospel meeting at the Cape Fear church in Fayetteville, NC. Byran Hatcher is the good preacher there.

On the 24th of October, I went with Byran to the preacher training school in Sumter, SC where Melvin Sapp preaches.

On October 26-27, I attended and spoke on the Southeast Georgia Lectureship in Richmond Hill, GA, where Riley Nelson is the long-time preacher there.

Please remember me in prayer as I travel back to Indonesia in the early minutes of November 5th.
