Events After
Returning Stateside
It was with a heavy heart that I had to
leave my wife behind to head back to the states. It had been our hope that Eta
would return with me to be able to attend the lectureship and also to be able
to begin meeting our brethren on this side of the Pacific Ocean. Her first visa
application was rejected, so she was not able to come. We are reapplying for
her visa during the month of April and we hope she will get it approved and
will be able to return to the states with me on July 1st.
It has been our original plan for her to be
with me as we attended the Memphis School of Preaching Lectures, but I had to
attend by myself. Hopefully, she will be able to make it for next year.
After attending the lectures, I made a quick
trip up to see my mother in Terre Haute, IN. She is doing about the same. She
lives in a nursing home there in her and my hometown.
I am scheduled to depart for Indonesia and
Malaysia on April 18th. I will not be able to send out the hard copy of this
report until I return in July. For those of you who have access to the
internet, you will be able to read the May and June reports on my blog. The

While I was back in the states, I finished
the manuscript for the Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship and worked on bilingual
PowerPoint lessons for our trip to Malaysia in May and June.
When I get back to Indonesia, I will be
teaching in the Southern Sumatra Bible Academy on the subject of the “Epistles
of John. I am looking forward to reuniting with my wife on April 20th.

WHEN
IS HE COMING?

There has been much discussion over the centuries as to the time when
Jesus is going to return. One important question is, “when is He coming?”
There
were those in the first century who believed Jesus would return during their
lifetime so they stopped working (2 Thessalonians 3:10-11). Through the years,
people believed they knew the time when Jesus would return. Many people sold
their possessions and gathered to a mountain or some other place to wait for
the Lord’s return. Religious leaders have set specific dates for Christ’s
second coming.
The answer to this question is found in
God’s Word. Jesus talked about His second coming while He was on the earth.
After telling His disciples about the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple,
He discussed the time of His second coming (Mark 13:32-37). Matthew records
this same message in Matthew 24:36-44. Jesus makes it clear we do not know when
He is coming. That is why we must watch and be ready for His return.
The
apostles Paul and Peter also spoke of the time of our Lord’s return. Paul said,
“For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief
in the night” (1 Thess. 5:2). Peter
added, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the
heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with
fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” (2
Peter 3:10).
When a
thief plans to rob a house, he does not give any warning to the people who live
in the house. He comes when we are asleep or away from the house. Christ is
going to come like a “thief in the night.” We do not know when He will return.
Jesus
tells us the second coming will be just like how the flood came in the days of
Noah (Matthew 24:37-39). As you continue to read, Jesus gives many examples to
show the importance of being ready for the coming judgment (Matthew
24:40-25:46). It is important for us to watch and be ready because we do not
know the time when Christ will return.
