Back in the States for Three Weeks

As you read this report, I will have just arrived back in the United States for three weeks. I will be here long enough to visit my doctor, dentist, catch up on my reports, and visit with some brethren.

I scheduled to return to Indonesia on July 22nd. Please pray for all of my travels and for my wife and family back in Indonesia.

Working on Visas

We have done all of the work we can right now on my Indonesian visa. I have a one-year visa with multiple entries. Also, I have now received my I.D. card which can be renewed every year. I can now also obtain a driver’s license here. I will do that when I get back to Indonesia later this month.

As of this writing, I have arrived safely in the US. When I got back to Indonesia, the next task will be to try to get my wife a visa for the United States. We will work on that leading up to my return to the states on September 30th.

Four Seas College Chinese Department

The elders of the Jurong Church of Christ in Singapore oversee Four Seas College. Last year, it was decided to begin a Chinese department, to teach Chinese speaking students in their mother tongue. There are currently two teachers who live in Singapore that will be able to teach the students in person (when the covid restrictions are lifted). For those of us who live outside of Singapore will teach the classes via Zoom (even after the end of covid). We have just finished the first term with sixty-five full and part-time students taking part in the classes.

During the second half of the second term, I will be teaching First Corinthians to the students. All of the lessons will be in Chinese, however, my PowerPoint notes are in both English and Chinese. We have two teachers from China, two from Singapore, one from Malaysia, and me.

Please pray for these efforts that are being made to prepare Chinese speaking students to prepare to preach the gospel in their own language. My wife and I express thanks for all of our financial supporters who enable me to have a part in this effort among the Chinese people. (More information to follow.)

– John and Eta Grubb

******************************

From Eta:

Oh, how time flies! June is almost gone. Been busy that we didn’t realize hubby had spent almost 2.5 months in Indonesia and now he's on his way back to US. Hoping that things will run well as planned and he'll go back home to Indonesia in three weeks.

For 2 months since his arrival in Indonesia, Hubby had been busy with his routines: teaching Bible classes, speaking on Sundays (offline and online) and attending on-line worships and Bible classes with brethren from different countries. Most Sundays he spoke in Asoka congregation with brother Harun Tamale helped as a translator. We had a chance to worship with our brethren in Natar too. It's good to be back there after almost two years since the last time we visited.

Most of our time, however, we were busy with Hubby's ITAS application so that he can have his Temporary Resident Card & Multiple Entry Permit that will let him come to Indonesia easily since during this pandemic, no more Visa on Arrival is available. We tried to do everything without the help from agents as we wanted everything to be done in a right way and of course it's cheap. Document preparation was the hardest part as we have to deal with some officers from different agencies. We had to be very patient and tried to do everything on the right tracks. We tried to get all the information needed online, completed all the documents and followed all the regulations. Some officers were very friendly and helpful, while some were really pains in the neck. The immigration office, police headquarters and city hall had become our favorite play grounds.

After all the efforts in the rainy days and the hot afternoons, finally on the 10th of June, John got his KTP (ID Card) as a citizen of Bandar Lampung Yay! We were very happy and relieved because at least for one year, John can travel to Indonesia freely. We thank God for His Providence and all the blessings; good health, patience and joys bestowed upon us. God is so good all the time. Apart from the hustle and bustle of the ITAS things, we managed to have fun too, especially during the month of June where three of us (Jovita, Hubby and Me) had our birthdays, and, of course, Father’s day! I started the blast on the 3rd of June. It feels good to be 53 with all the loves, sweet words and wishes from all of you. Thank you so much for making my special day very special. No parties, but lots of surprises from my beloved family & friends and a family dinner in our favorite restaurant, I’m blessed! The fun continued on the 7th of June it is Jovita’s day, I can’t believe my little girl is 23! We gave her a midnight surprise and she got some more surprises from family & her friends. We had a family dinner with my mom, my brother’s family and some family friends. My mom was very happy that she could leave the house but not to the hospital.

John’s birthday on the 14 was next on the agenda. We had planned to surprise him, but during our nite prayer time he said that he didn’t want to have the midnite surprise. “If you girls had prepared something, let’s do it tomorrow,” he said confidently. However, at midnite, he asked me to surprise our girls by knocking their doors and when they opened the doors, he sang the birthday song, Jovita said she's more surprised. that nite than her own birthday surprise We had a simple dinner at our house and the man of the day wore his special, custom made shirt that he had asked since last year. We celebrated father’s day by having a “stay-cation” just for one nite in one of the hotels in town, got a good rate as I know the hotel Sales Executive, She’s very kind and welcome us by sending delicious pizza to our room. It’s fun to be away for a while from home, forgetting all the routines & chores. While there we could also join the hotel CSR – Blood donation, so we donated our blood! Jessica and I have done this several times but it's Jovita's first time, Yay Jojo!

Looking back to my June, even during this crazy situation because of the pandemic, we still have lots of things to be grateful for. I thank God for all of His blessings and His providence in our lives.
