Finishing Up the Trip to Asia – Taiwan and Indonesia

On December 2nd, my wife and I headed for Taiwan to begin a two-week trip meeting with the brethren in three cities.

We started in the city of Taichung, where my family and I lived for ten years between 1982 and 1992. We were able to spend a couple of days seeing some of the new sites in Taichung before the start of the lectureship on Friday. We were able to eat with John, Michele, and Ben Yo the very first day we were there.

The lectureship began on Friday night with brother Wang presented the first of several lessons on the “Beatitudes.” On day two, there were four lessons delivered by brother Wang, brother Jao, Ben Yo, and John Yo.

The attendance was down some this year over last year because of number of overseas brethren were not able to attend and there were a number of brethren who were sick or had been injured and were not able to come. We still had about 35 people to attend the Saturday sessions. On Saturday evening, we had about 25 to eat our dinner together at a local restaurant.

I finished the lectureship with the final two lessons on Sunday morning. We had two Christian families from Singapore to add to our number. There were also a few visitors to attend the Sunday Bible study and worship. On Sunday evening, Eta and I were able to enjoy a meal with John and Michele Yo and to chat about many things regarding our families and the work of the Lord.

Two families from the Jurong congregation in Singapore were on vacation in Taiwan and attended services in Taichung and Taiwan. The two families were made up by the daughters of David and Abigail Chew.

On the Monday following the Taichung lectureship, we boarded a train for Hualien. We would be there through the next Sunday morning, working with the congregation, speaking at midweek services, conducting a gospel meeting, and speaking at the nursing home congregation.

It was a privilege to be able to work with brother and sister Wang again. We also are thankful for the opportunity to encourage the other members of the congregation there.

After Sunday morning services (three total), Eta and I boarded a train for Taipei where I was able to speak to the congregation that meets there. I spoke in the worship and in the Bible class. We are thankful for those who are helping this work in Taipei.

On the last day in Taipei, brother Jao gave us a tour of part of Yang Ming Shan National Park in Taipei. We were thankful for his willingness to do that for us.

On Tuesday, 17 December, Eta and I traveled back to Indonesia and arrived at home in Lampung that night. Thanks for making this effort possible.

The First Mission Trip 2020

We hope that in the coming year, 2020, we will be able to keep our current contributions, and, if possible, to have some new contributors begin to support our work. It may be possible that some of our contributors will be able to increase their contributions in the new year. If that is possible, it will be greatly appreciated.

This year, except for China and the United States, my wife is traveling with me on all of my mission trips. I am thankful she is able to do this to enhance the work we are doing. Because of our inability to obtain a visa for her, I am spending more time overseas than I normally would. We will be going to several cities in Indonesia during the months of February and March, 2020, to encourage the churches in those cities. Those cities include Manado, Palembang, Batam, Jakarta, and Lampung. I will also teach some classes at the Bible school.

Eta has several work projects in January, so we did not even try to get her visa for January. Please pray for her health. We will try again for March. I am scheduled to return to the United States on January 7th. I will then return to Indonesia on the 6th of February.
