July Events
During the month of July, I made a two week
trip to Indonesia for a vacation. I have not made such a trip before in my
entire life. While I was in Indonesia, I did have the privilege to speak at two
different congregations and to speak at the midweek Bible class conducted at
the Southern Sumatra Bible Academy.
After returning from Indonesia, I had the
privilege to speak at the Power Lectures in Southaven, Mississippi. It was good
to be able to meet many of our brethren there. The attendance was good for the
lectureship. The theme of the lectureship was: “The Devil.” My topic was: “The
Devil and Judas.” It was a privilege to have a part in this lectureship. Thanks
to the elders of the Southaven congregation for inviting me to speak and for
conducting this annual lectureship.

False, man-made religions have been around
for a long, long time. God gave Adam and Eve the truth regarding His will for
them, but they sinned. And MAN continued to sin, to turn away from God, to
worship false gods, idols etc. God gave His people a written law, the Law of
Moses, (which could be understood), but the Old Testament is filled with
examples of man following false gods of his (man’s) imagination. Elijah,
Micaiah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and other inspired servants of God often confronted
the kings of Israel and Judah (and all “Israel”) when they followed Baal and
other false gods. This was one of the sins that led to the Assyrian and
Babylonian Captivities. The Gentile world was even worse as is taught in Romans
chapter one.
But there were a few (a remnant) who looked
forward to a Saviour, as promised by God in Genesis 3:15 and on throughout the
O.T. He came (Matthew-John); His church was established as promised (Acts 2);
its early history is recorded in the N.T. God speaks to man today through His
Son through the New Testament. The great
book of Hebrews begins: “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake
in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken
unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he
made the worlds….”
Since the close of the first century, man
has had the complete Bible, O.T. and N.T.
Of course, it took a while for the N.T. books to be “gathered together,”
but they were gradually copied and carried from place to place as Christians
travelled and “went every where preaching the word.”
My main point is that man has had God’s
will from the “beginning”—even Adam and Eve, but somehow man has not “learned”
from God, His word and history—and has “chosen” his “own ways,” disobeying the
True God of the Bible. Denominations and cults twist and pervert the Bible to
teach what they want to teach; world religions likewise set the Bible aside
etc. Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, Confucianism and other isms are all
“man’s” foolish ideas (Sadly, these “man-made” religions are growing in America
and around the world and hindering the spread of the true gospel). Billions of
people are being deceived and misled. WHAT can we do? “Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is
baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.” “Preach
the word” in person, via television, radio, websites, CDs, DVDs, newspapers,
tracts, lectureships, debates etc. Brethren, let’s SEE our LOST WORLD, and
sacrifice and DO MORE to preach the gospel of Christ to LOST, HOPELESS men and
women. Heaven is real and so is hell. There is only one way to heaven—through
the one Saviour, Jesus the Christ (Jn.14:6; 8:24; Acts 4:12; Rom.1:16).
