We Were Hoping for Open Borders in September

We were hanging on to the hope that either Indonesia or Malaysia would open their borders to foreign tourists during the month of September. However, in a recent report from the Indonesian government, they do not plan to allow foreign tourists back into the country until next year. That is also true for Malaysia. That means, we will have to hope for the opening of another country, or just continue to wait and hope for any possibility. There is still the possibility that Thailand or Vietnam will open before the end of the year.

During the month of August, I taught three lessons for the Subang Jaya congregation in Kuala Lumpur and preached a Chinese sermon at the Boon Lay church in Singapore. The churches in Singapore are still unable to meet in their church buildings. The churches in Malaysia are able to meet in their buildings once a week, but the rest of the week they depend on the internet.

During the last week of August, my son, Samuel, and I, made a trip to Indiana to visit with my mother in her nursing home. Originally, we were to be able to visit with mom for thirty minutes, but because they were having an old car parade later in the day, we were able to go back and see mom again during the parade.

Sam and I were also able to visit with my brother, Ken, his wife, Betsy, and Beverly, my oldest brother, David’s wife. It was a quick trip to Indiana, but it was good to be able to be with my mother again.

After returning home on Saturday afternoon, I was able to meet (on-line) for worship with the Chinese congregation in Singapore and the Subang Jaya congregation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Every Sunday morning, I meet with Eta, Jessica, and Jovita for our weekly Bible study. We are currently studying the book of Joshua. Beginning on the first Sunday of September, the Chestnut Mountain congregation are going back to the pre-covid-19 services. Sunday AM. Bible study and worship, Sunday evening worship, and Wed. evening Bible study. Services are still available via zoom and Facebook live.

On Monday, August 31st, Eta and I were able to attend the Restoration Seminar at the Subang Jaya congregation. The entire seminar was conducted on zoom and YouTube live. There were brethren who participated from Malaysia, Singapore, China, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, and the United States.

On September 2nd, I will speak to the Wednesday night Subang Jaya Bible study also conducted on-line. I am thankful I am able to contribute to classes and worship services overseas.

As far as I know, plans are still being made to begin a Chinese department at Four Seas College in Singapore sometime next year. I have indicated an interest in helping in this project. I hope that I will be able to help in this new work.

   Prayers solicited and appreciated.
