Still Able to Preach Around the World from Indonesia

Since coming to Indonesia, I have been able to teach in private Bible studies via the internet and in weekly Bible class (also via the internet). I have had opportunities to speak in Melbourne, Australia, Subang Jaya, Section 17, and Skudai – all in Malaysia. Some of the lessons have been in English, some in Chinese, some bi-lingual (English and Chinese), and also English translated into Indonesian. I also am able to attend classes and worship in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the United States.

Working on Visas

After being separated by covid for a thirteen-month period, Eta and I decided we would work on getting my permanent visa and multiple entry visa so that I can come and go as needed. Since covid, Indonesia has stopped all “visa on arrival,” we decided we needed to get this done.

On June 10th, we finished the first phase of this process. I now have a one-year permit to stay in Indonesia with a multiple entry visa for the next year.

My wife has done all of the “leg work” on getting the visa application ready and approved. On May 19th, we started phase two of the visa process. We had to go to the police station and register my presence in Indonesia along with a picture and forms to fill out. We completed that on May 20th.

We are still working on other phases of visa procedures and will give you an update in the next report.

A Normal Week While in Indonesia

Because there are still lockdowns in Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan, I still have the opportunity to speak to some of these congregations via the internet. Here is a normal week while I am in Indonesia. (All times Indonesian time).

Finally Made It to Indonesia

On April 5th, I finally received my visa to enable me to go to Indonesia. I booked my ticket that same day in preparation for the trip. On the Thursday before the flight, I went to get my covid test. I received the negative result and made ready to head for the airport to fly, first, to Korea, then on to Jakarta. I had a good flight from Atlanta to Seoul/Incheon. It was about fourteen hours. I had a twenty-three hour layover in Korea. I spent the night in a transit hotel before worshiping on-line with brethren in New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Had kind of a bumpy flight from Seoul to Jakarta, but arrived early. My wife had arranged an agent to guide me through the health screening, immigration, and customs. I was then turned over to the driver of the hotel where I am stayed during my five-day quarantine. I had my first covid test in the hotel with the second one the day before I was released.

The quarantine also provided my meals for the period. My wife insured that the foods provided were healthy. I passed both of my covid tests in quarantine and was released on Friday, April 16th.

I cannot over-emphasize the tremendous help my wife provided for getting me back to Indonesia. I am so grateful for all of the efforts she made on our behalf.

One of the major projects we worked on during this trip was to secure my permanent resident visa which will enable me to come and go to Indonesia. We started work on that on April 17th. Again, my wife did most of the necessary work for this. At this writing, we are still working on the visa and will hope to have this first phase completed by the middle of May.

Since coming to Indonesia, I have stayed very busy with speaking appointments via the internet as well as preaching through translator at the local congregation. For example, on May 2nd, I spoke in Melbourne, Australia at 7:30 am then 9 am at the local Indonesian congregation. Next Sunday, I will speak in Melbourne again then in southern Malaysia in the evening.

Before the end of May, I hope to present another lesson in the Indonesian language without the use of a translator.

We continue to be thankful for all of our supporters who have been able to stay with us during the covid and beyond. Without your help, this work would not be possible.

The covid has brought a lot of changes in the world, but one good thing it has done is to allow me to speak in many countries through Zoom or Google Meet.

While I am on this trip, I will also try to speak at some of the other churches in the province.

We continue to solicit your prayers on our behalf as we work on visas for me and later this year for Eta. Also, to pray for the efforts we continue to make in the Kingdom.

The current plan is to for me to return to the states on June 30th, then return to Indonesia the third week in July.
