Wedding - Honeymoon - Mission Trip
I began my 70th mission trip since 1985 right after I got married in Jakarta, Indonesia on November 18th. On November 14th, I departed the United States to head to Jakarta, Indonesia to marry Bertha Beatrix Purba. He friends call her “Eta.” Our wedding was broadcast live on Facebook. More than 1,900 people have viewed the wedding so far.

After our wedding, we spent three days in Jakarta before heading to Malaysia to enjoy a couple of days in Kuala Lumpur. While there, I had the privilege to speak to the Kota Kemuning congregation, speaking on Friday night and Sunday morning. On Saturday evening, we had dinner with about 40 of our friends in central west Malaysia.

On Monday, November 26th, we went to Singapore to participate in the Four Seas College Lectures and the joint gospel meetings of the Jurong and Lim Ah Pin congregations. I had the privilege to speak two nights (one at Jurong and one at Lim Ah Pin), speak on a panel for questions and answers, and spoke the last lesson of the lectureship on Saturday afternoon. One of the highlights of the week was Eta’s daughters, Jessica and Jovita were able to attend the lectures for the very first time. On Sunday morning, we worshipped with the Jurong congregation then took the girls to the airport to fly back to Indonesia.

On Monday, December 3rd, Eta and I flew to Taiwan to begin two weeks of teaching and encouraging in Taichung, Hualien, and Taipei. We first traveled to Taichung to participate in the annual Taichung Chinese lectureship. There were more than 50 different individuals to attend at least two of the sessions of the nine lessons delivered. There were speakers and/or participants from Singapore, Indonesia, the United States, and Taiwan. I had the privilege to speak on Sunday morning, the last two lessons of the lectureship.

On Monday, Eta and I boarded a train to head toward Hualien. Brother Kwan had traveled from the lectureship to Hualien on Saturday and was teaching each evening. He continued that through Tuesday night. On Wednesday he left Hualien to head back to China. On Wednesday night, I began to teach a series of lessons through Friday night. On Sunday, after worshipping with the brethren in Hualien, we headed for Taipei to worship with the brethren there that evening. We had worship and Bible study with the brethren there.

On Monday, December 17, we spent our last full day in Taiwan. We went to visit the Taipei 101 tower, the third tallest building in the world. There were many people there. On Tuesday, we made our way to the International Airport in Taoyuan to head for Jakarta then back to Lampung, Sumatra. It was a long day, but we arrived safely and still had to time to have dinner with many of Eta’s family, including her daughters and mother.

From December 18-21, we tried to catch up with many things for Eta after being away from her home for a month. There were many errands to get accomplished during that time. December 22-25, Eta, her daughters, and I traveled for a short trip to Melaka, Malaysia.

While we were there, I had the privilege to speak to the Bible class and worship at the church in Melaka. We also enjoyed the hospitality of many of the brethren there. This was especially true of the Loo family. Steven helped us with our transportation to and fro from the International Airport. We returned to Indonesia on Christmas day. The next day we went to a retreat for Eta’s family There were about twelve who attended this year. It was a lot of fun. After that, we returned to Lampung, Sumatra for six day until I left for the states. On the last Sunday in 2018, I preached at the Asoka congregation in Lampung.

Eta and I closed out the old year with her girls. We are looking forward to a great 2019. With your help and prayers, much good work can be accomplished for the Lord.

Mission Trip / Honeymoon

Dear brethren,

My computer has broken on this trip and I am not able to post my normal report. I hope to have the problem fixed soon, but in the meantime, I wanted to post something on my blog.

As many of you already know, Bertha Beatrix Purba and I were married in December 18th. We also are traveling to three different countries for preaching and teaching.

We have already been in Malaysia and Singapore, and are now in Taiwan. We will be here until 18 December, at which time we will go back to Indonesia. We will be in Melaka the Sunday before Christmas. I will return to the states on 3 January, 2019.

Our current plan is to travel to New Zealand, 1 February through 4 March. We hope to travel together to the United States on 15 March, visa permitting.

Please continue to pray for us in our new life together.

In His service, John and Eta Grubb
