72nd Mission Trip - April 18-July 1 (Continued)

This is a continuation of the report I began in the May 2019 mission report. In the last report, I gave you an overview of what will be happening in the entire trip to Asia. I will now begin with events that took place in May.

In the early days of May, I continued and completed the time allotted at the Southern Sumatra Bible Academy to teach the Epistles of John. I was not able to complete the material so Jon Ropalemba will complete the class later on. While here in Lampung, I have been asked to preach every Sunday, either at Asoka or at Natar. I also had the privilege to teach the Bible class on Thursday night which is conducted at the school. We had the opportunity to interact with many of the brethren in Lampung, as well as to get to visit hospitals and to talk with friends of my wife.

In the first half of the month of May, every free moment was used to work on the house to try to get it ready to live in again. We did finally move in on the 13th of May, but the house was far from completely being ready. However, the bathrooms and the bedrooms were ready enough, so we decided to move in to the house. At this writing, there are still a number of things that have to be done, but it is coming along.

On May 16th, we began the second phase of this mission trip by heading to Malaysia for teaching and preaching, edification and encouragement.

Our first stop was at the Section 17 congregation in the Kuala Lumpur area. As usual, we were treated as honored guests. I had the privilege to speak at the Friday night Bible class, then spoke to the two English services on Sunday morning and the Chinese service on Sunday evening. We had the opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of our brethren while we were there.

On the second weekend, we were with the Subang Jaya congregation. We were with the church in Subang Jaya on Friday night, had meals with the brethren Friday through Sunday, then spoke for Bible study and worship on Sunday. It was a joy to be with the brethren there again. For the last several years, the brethren there have asked me to be sure to put me on their schedule.

While we were in Malaysia, we had the opportunity to eat some of my favorite foods – egg and onion pancake (roti telur bawang) and satay. We are thankful for all of the hospitality shown to Eta and me during our stay in Malaysia.

In between the appointments in Kuala Lumpur and the Chinese Asian Bible Lectureship (CABL), Eta and I went to Melaka where she had her annual health check-up. While we were in Melaka, we were able to eat a meal with the Loo’s. We then took a bus to Johor Bahru to begin the rest of the week at the CABL.

The CABL was well-attended this year. There were approximately 150 in attendance from seven different countries. There were twelve speakers delivering lessons based on the book of James. I had the privilege to be the first speaker on the program. I also participated in a Q&A session. The program was Thursday through Saturday. On Friday night, several attended the Friday night bilingual Bible study at the Skudai congregation. There were the organizers for this year’s lectureship. The 15th Annual CABL will be conducted June 4-6, 2020 in the city of Kuala Lumpur. Mark your calendars now for this upcoming event.

Following the lectureship, we went back to the Section 17 congregation for Sunday English and Chinese worship. I taught the Bible class and preached in the English service, then preached the sermon for the Chinese service that night. They have only been having Chinese services for six months.

On the 4th of June, Eta and I returned to Indonesia. In the next report, I talk about the events during the month of June.
