Back in Lampung

I left Indonesia at the end of June with the plan of coming back the third week of July. In spite of increased covid cases in Indonesia, I will still able to return because of my visa. The quarantine period was extended to eight days this time. Fortunately, all of my covid tests continue to come back negative.

I left the states on July 20th and first traveled to Korea where I spent the night in the transit area. Because of jet lag, I was unable to join the Subang Jaya class on that Wed. night.

My flight the next day out of Seoul was about 10 am local time. Because of the nineteen hour layover, I secured a hotel room in the transit lounge. It was my plan to go to bed early and wake up about 4:00 am and get ready to check out and go to the transit lounge until my flight. I was sleeping really well, heard the phone (I use the alarm on my phone), jumped up, thought I had slept pretty well, got my shower, shaved, etc., and then I looked at my watch – 11:50 pm. I thought, “my watch did not reset from the U.S. I looked at the clock on my computer – the same. There was a clock on the wall – the same! Then I realized, my phone had a call come through from the states and I thought it was my alarm. So, I was up and dressed four hours ahead of time. I was able to sleep two more hours before my alarm actually sounded. That was the first time anything like that had happened to me in my travels.

I arrived safely in Jakarta, went through the quarantine, and finally was able to fly back to Lampung on July 30th.

I continue to have past in Bible classes and worship services in Taiwan and Malaysia.

Four Seas College Chinese Department

Last month, I wrote about the beginning of the Four Seas College Chinese Department. Every Monday morning, we have a chapel service with songs, prayers, and a devotional lesson delivered by one of the teachers. I spoke the last Monday in July and I will lead the songs on the first Monday of August.

During the second half of the second term, I will be teaching First Corinthians to the students. That begins on August 11th. I will be teaching Mon., Wed., and Fri. – two hours each morning. All of the lessons will be in Chinese, however, my PowerPoint notes are in both English and Chinese. It ends October 1st.

Please pray for these efforts that are being made to prepare Chinese speaking students to prepare to preach the gospel in their own language. My wife and I express thanks for all of our financial supporters who enable me to have a part in this effort among the Chinese people. May the Lord continue to bless these efforts to try to help spread the gospel among the Chinese-speaking people.
